Transfer Godaddy Domain To Namecheap – Every website has at least these three components; domain name, hosting provider, where it is located, and the actual content of the website.
Many domain registrars, such as Namecheap and GoDaddy, usually offer hosting services along with domain sales. However, sometimes you may like the services of other hosting providers better.
Transfer Godaddy Domain To Namecheap
In this article, you will learn how to transfer a domain name from Namecheap to another hosting service. I’ll use HostPapa and GoDaddy as examples here, but the process is similar to other hosting services.
Best Cheap Domain Registrars Compared And Reviewed In 2022
I have used several hosting providers in the past and I prefer HostPapa out of all of them. HostPapa is a relatively unknown hosting provider, but they provide excellent hosting services.
While there are certainly cheaper hosting services out there, HostPapa isn’t expensive. HostPapa provides a free SSL certificate and a free domain name for one year. It also has excellent server performance and has a five-star rating on Trustpilot. Compared to other services I use like HostGator and GoDaddy, HostPapa is superior.
HostGator is particularly bad, with server performance below a one-star rating on Trustpilot. GoDaddy is still good, but it lacks some perks like the free SSL certificate. It also has a two-star rating on Trustpilot.

Godaddy Vs. Google Domains Vs. Namecheap Vs. Cloudflare: Which Domain Name Registrar To Choose?
So, if you prefer hosting services for other systems, you can transfer your domain from the registrar you purchased to another hosting provider, such as HostPapa or GoDaddy.
Please note that we do not transfer the domain between registrars, we only redirect it to another hosting service. There are three main steps to moving a Namecheap domain to another host.
The first thing we do is get the nameservers of the host we want to point our Namecheap domain to. This step is not the same for all hosting providers. If you’re using hosting services like HostPapa and Bluehost, all you need to do is search the internet for nameservers.
They are generally the same across all hosting types. Here I use HostPapa. You can see the name server in the screenshot below.

However, the name servers of other hosting services such as GoDaddy and SiteGround may change depending on your hosting type. To get the nameservers, first log into your host’s cPanel.
As you can see above, an additional domain “storemonkeywp.com” has been created. If you open the root of the extension domain, you will notice that it is currently empty. We’ll come back to this in step three.
After creating an additional domain, the next step is to purchase name servers for the additional domain. To do this, make sure you are logged in and select
This will take you to the domain page. You should see all your domains here, including the additional domain you just added. If you don’t see it, change the view by clicking the icon on the right next to the search bar.
Namecheap Vs Godaddy
Changing Namecheap nameservers is a much easier process than the previous step. First, make sure you are signed in to your Namecheap account. Then hover over your username and click
From the side menu. You will get a list of all your domains. Find the domain you want to transfer and click
Here we will fill in the nameservers we obtained in the previous step. After filling in the two nameservers, click the green checkmark on the right to save it. Here I’m using the HostPapa nameservers that we first got from GoDaddy.
Changing the name server is not reflected immediately. The change can take up to 48 hours, but usually happens in less than an hour.

To check if the name servers have been changed, type the website URL in your browser. Remember, if you don’t have content on your site, you won’t see anything. Be sure to add the HTML code or install WordPress on a new domain. You can check out my video on how to install WordPress cPanel.
To add HTML code to your website, go to the cPanel of your chosen hosting service and click
Folder in the left panel. Now click on the folder with your domain in the right panel.
This should create an HTML file in your root directory. To edit a file, right-click on it and click

You should now see a text editor open. Type “Hello World” (or whatever you want) and click
If all goes well and the nameservers have been changed, you should see Hello World (or whatever you typed) when you visit your domain.
So you transfer a Namecheap domain to a hosting service. Although this article focuses on HostPapa and GoDaddy, the process is similar for other web hosting services. So that’s it! Buying a domain name is one of the first things you do when building a website. GoDaddy, Namecheap, Name.com, Domain.com, etc. are some of the most popular domain registrars offering different TLDs at different prices. They compete on the selection of TLDs they offer, the features that come with a domain name, customer support, ease of use, and more. Price is usually the deciding factor when buying a domain, as it varies greatly between these registrars.
Dns Records For Popular Domain Registrars
I bought my first domain with GoDaddy because they were very cheap. Huge discounts for first-time customers. I’ve chosen to continue with my domain and hosting needs, after only two years I got off their hosting and recently moved my domains from them to Namecheap as well.
I had reasons to change it and I don’t regret it. If you also have one or more reasons to transfer domains, I recommend Namecheap for their price, ease of use, simple process, and competitive support. Namecheap is currently running a domain transfer sale where you can save up to 45% on transfer fees. In this quick tutorial I will show you how to transfer your domain to Namecheap.
I have been a Namecheap user for several years, having purchased and hosted one of my domains. Although I’ve changed hosting three times in the past six years, I’ve kept the domain with Namecheap. The original reason I chose Namecheap was their price, to be honest. Also, their support is responsive and their website is pretty easy to use. Recently, when one of my domains expired, I thought it would be a good idea to have them all in one place.
Namecheap also provides free Whois protection for every domain they have. It helps hide your information from publicly available data and instead shows random information. I had to pay for Whois protection with GoDaddy.
Easy Steps To Transfer Domain From Godaddy To Namecheap
If you transfer your domain to Namecheap, you will still retain the domain from your current registrar. For example, if you still have three months left on GoDaddy, you get one year plus three months = 15 months on Namecheap.
In short, the reasons I chose Namecheap as my preferred domain registrar are price, ease of use, good customer service, free Whois privacy, and the convenience of having all your domains in one place.
Although this tutorial was written with GoDaddy and Namecheap in mind, it should work with other domain registrars as well.
Log in to your GoDaddy account and go to the list of domains. Look for a link or button that says “Manage” or “Domain Settings” or something similar. This is usually where you change any settings related to a specific domain.
