Smtp Settings For Gmail Account
With the Gmail SMTP server, you will be able to send emails from your Gmail account using other email clients such as Outlook or Thunderbird. But more importantly, you can also use Gmail’s SMTP server to send emails from your WordPress site. Free!
How Using Gmail’s
This is a great way to make emails on your WordPress site reliable without spending money on a dedicated email service. Gmail allows you to send up to 500 emails per day, which is more than enough for most WordPress sites.
There are also some common (but not universal) Gmail SMTP settings you may encounter when trying to set things up. Here’s how to get those answers:

As we explained above, the default server address is smtp.gmail.com. You can sign in using your full Gmail email address and your Google password.
Why Won’t My Gmail Smtp Settings Work?
Yes! You can If you are using other email clients, such as Thunderbird or Outlook, you can use your Gmail SMTP server information to send emails through your Gmail account.
However, remember that SMTP is only for sending emails. If you also want to receive emails in your Gmail account in another email client, you will need to use POP3 or IMAP. You can find these settings by opening your Gmail settings and going to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
Yes again! WordPress sends many basic transactional emails like password reset, notifications etc. and you can send all these emails using Gmail SMTP server.
With a free Gmail account, you will be able to send 500 emails per day, which is much higher than the limits used by free SMTP servers.
Help: Smtp Setup With 2 Step Verification
If you have a paid Google Workspace account (formerly G Suite), Google will increase your limit and allow you to send up to 2,000 emails per day. You will be able to send emails from your custom domain name to your Gmail address. That is, you can send from [email protected] instead of [email protected]. To do this, you will also need to set up Google Workspace MX records to connect your Google Workspace account to your domain name.
Note: Technically, shipping limits are not “per day”. Instead, the limits apply to a “24-hour period.” For example, you failed to send 500 emails on Monday at 11:59 PM and then sent another 500 emails on Tuesday at 12:01 AM.
Yes! You can use the SMTP server even if you have enabled two-factor authentication on your Google Account. However, you will need to create an app password to be able to connect the app.
However, if you want to use Gmail’s SMTP server to send emails from your WordPress site, we do not recommend using this method. Instead, you should use the Gmail API method that we will explain in the tutorial below. This allows you to send emails using Gmail’s API instead of entering SMTP server data, which also has the advantage of avoiding problems with two-factor authentication.

Now, let’s see how you can use the Gmail SMTP server to send commercial emails from your WordPress site for free. This method is very effective and improves the reliability of your site’s emails using a unique PHP mail method.
To solve this, you need to create a Google app that can connect to the Gmail SMTP server through the API, instead of connecting the SMTP data. There are a good number of steps involved in doing this. This is a one time setup process. That is, if you take 30-60 minutes to go through this setup, your site will still be profitable on autopilot.
In addition to creating a Google app, you will also need the help of a WordPress SMTP plugin. We’ll be using the free Post SMTP Mailer/Email Log plugin, but the free WP Mail SMTP plugin is also another good option that supports the Gmail API.
Note – This tutorial is about using a free Gmail account. However, you can follow the same process to set up your website to send emails through your Google Workspace (G Suite) account.
How To Set Up Smtp Using The Wp Mail Smtp Plugin
To get started, you need to install and configure the Post SMTP Mailer/Email Log plugin from WordPress.org. This allows you to configure your WordPress site to send emails via the Gmail API/SMTP server.
After activating the plugin, go to the Post SMTP tab in your WordPress dashboard and click the Show All Settings link under the big Start Wizard button.
Then go to the Messages tab and enter your “from” email address and name. You can use your Gmail address as the “from” email, or you can use another email address if you prefer.
Then go back to the Account tab and select Gmail API from the Type dropdown. After making this choice, you should see some options in the Confirmation box below. Keep this page open as you will need the Allowed JavaScript Source and Allowed Redirect URI information in the next step:

Now you need to create a Google app. This is what allows your WordPress website to send emails securely through the Gmail API. Again, this is the hardest part of this event. However, it’s usually just a few buttons to push, and we’ll walk you through all the steps/screens you need to go through.
To get started, open a new tab and copy this URL to go to the Google Developers Console. There you need to create a new project. If this is your first time accessing the configuration console, Google will ask you to create your first project. Or, if you already have a few projects, you can create one by clicking the drop down in the upper left corner (marked [1] in the image below).
You should now be in the dedicated interface of the Gmail API. Click the button to create Credentials:
Now, Google will ask you to enter the permission screen. It’s the same type of permission screen you see when you use the Google sign in/sign out site.

You need to do this to meet Google’s requirements, but you don’t need to worry about the information you enter, as you will only be using this for your WordPress site.
This should open a new tab where you can set up the OAuth authorization screen (keep the original browser tab close as you’ll need to return to it in seconds). Under User Type, select External. Then click Create:
On the next screen, enter the basic information for your website. Again – you don’t have to worry about what you put here because you are the only person who will see this information.
Now go back to the Add Credentials tab in your project interface and enter the following information:
What Are Gmail’s Smtp Settings?
After adding everything, click Refresh. Then the Refresh button should be Generate OAuth client ID – click to complete the process and then click .

When you click Done, you should see the OAuth 2.0 Client IDs section in the Credentials tab of your project (it should open automatically after clicking Done).
To complete the setup, return to the Post SMTP Email / Email Registration settings in your WordPress dashboard and paste the Client ID and Client Password from the previous step. Then make sure to save your changes:

Clicking on the link opens the usual Google authorization (again, like signing in to the site using your Google login). However, since you haven’t submitted your app to Google for review, Google will show you a warning: “This app has not been verified.”
Since this is your app, you can safely ignore the warning. Click the option to show advanced settings, then click the Go to “yourwebsite.com” link (not secure) to continue with authorization.
You will now go through the normal process. Make sure to select Allow your WordPress website access to your Gmail account. It needs these permissions to send emails through the Gmail SMTP server.
To make sure everything works, the Post SMTP Email/Email Registry includes an option to send a test email. You can access it from the main settings page:

Your WordPress site will now send all of its emails using the Gmail SMTP server. You can make sure this is happening by going to Send SMTP → Email Log. This lists all emails sent by your website (plus errors if the plugin encounters problems):
