While Outlook’s SMTP server allows you to send email using an Outlook account, POP3 and IMAP allow you to import email messages that have been sent to you by other users. We’ll cover IMAP in the next section.

If you want to use an email client, it’s also important to add your POP3 or IMAP credentials to receive email from Outlook in your email client. In general, IMAP is better than POP3 if you want to access email from multiple devices (such as desktops and mobile devices) because it provides two-way synchronization. However, POP3 may be a better choice if you only use one device.
Note that Outlook disables POP3 by default. To activate it, click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Outlook interface and search for “pop”. Then click the POP and IMAP result (or you can click this link to go directly there).
In the POP options area, select Yes under Allow devices and applications to use POP. You can then choose to allow programs and devices to delete emails from Outlook or to keep them forever.
As mentioned above, IMAP is usually a better option if you want to access your email from multiple devices. Outlook enables IMAP access by default, so you only need to use these settings:

Let’s say you want to improve the reliability of the emails you send from your WordPress site. In that case, you can also configure your WordPress site to send emails using the Outlook SMTP server to take advantage of the generous sending limits (
). However, if you run into any problems, there are many other free SMTP servers available, including the free Gmail SMTP server.
To configure WordPress to use the SMTP service, you need the WordPress SMTP plugin. There are several popular options, but we recommend the Post SMTP plugin because it’s 100% free and includes features to fix any potential problems you may have with your website’s emails.
To get started, install and activate the free plugin from WordPress.org. Next, open the new SMTP area in your WordPress dashboard and click the option to show all settings:

Then go to the Message tab and enter your email address and the word “From”. The email address must be your Outlook account email, and the name can be whatever you want recipients to see:

If you encounter a problem, you can troubleshoot it by going to Post SMTP > Email Log and looking at the specific error message for the failed emails. The plugin will also suggest a solution. For example, if you entered an incorrect password, it will prompt you to double-check this information:

Your Outlook account will be displayed. Select the account you will configure to use a postmark for delivery.
For the outgoing server, enter smtp.. Set the port to 587 or 2525 and select “Ignore default port” and “Use SSL” to connect if not already checked.
Click Advanced Options… Get the Postmark Server API token from the Broadcast Settings page for your Postmark Server. Change the Authentication field to Username and Password and paste your Server API token into the Username and Password fields. Then click OK to save.

Once you’ve configured your external settings, send a test email from the account you’ve configured to use a postmark. The email will be sent via postmark via SMTP and will be available for viewing in your postmark activity.
Note. The first time you send an email after changing your unsubscribe settings, you may be asked to re-enter your password. Enter the password server API token again and check the option to save the password so you don’t have to enter it every time you send.
