This tutorial was written with GoDaddy and Namecheap in mind, but should work with other domain registrars as well.
Log in to your GoDaddy account and go to your list of domains. Look for ‘Admin’ or ‘Domain Settings’ or similar links or buttons. This is where you change settings, usually related to a specific domain.
Find the ‘Domain Lock’ option and disable it. To transfer a domain, it must be deactivated. Depending on your domain registrar, it may take some time to update. You may need to confirm this action using the link emailed to you.

If your current registrar uses the Whois privacy service, you should also remove it from your domain.
The page asks for confirmation of the action. Click ‘Continue Sending’ and get your verification code. This code can be displayed on screen or emailed to you. Copy this code somewhere as you will need it in the next part.
After you disable domain lock and receive an authorization code, you’re ready to switch.

Now click Confirm Order and complete the payment process on the next page. After you complete your order, your domain will be added to your Namecheap dashboard. You will see a ‘Waiting for release from previous registrar’ message below your domain name.
When your old and new domain registrars have completed the process, wait for an email from your old registrar. GoDaddy sent you the following email within 5 minutes of your transfer request. You should also find similar emails.
This email confirms that your transfer request is proceeding as intended. Within 7 days, Namecheap will transfer your domain registration from the previous registrar. But you don’t have to wait until then. Some registrars may allow you to manually accept this transfer request to speed up this process.

When you do this, GoDaddy will immediately start the domain release process and transfer the domain to Namecheap. You will receive an email confirming this.
You have now completed everything required to transfer your domain to Namecheap and now you need to wait for the process to complete. It takes a few minutes for Namecheap to fully acquire your domain name, but it may take several days.
During this transfer process, your website will continue to function with no downtime. You can contact Namecheap Support if you need assistance during the process.
If for some reason you decide to change domain registrars, we recommend switching to Namecheap. The domain name transfer process includes disabling domain lock, removing individual registrations (if any), receiving an authorization code, and submitting a request to Namecheap.
