Outlook SMTP server allows you to send email through your Outlook account, POP3 and IMAP allow you to import emails sent by other people. We’ll cover IMAP in the next section.

If you choose to use an email client, it’s also important to add POP3 or IMAP credentials to your email client to receive emails from Outlook. In general, if you want to access your email from multiple devices (such as desktop and mobile), IMAP is better than POP3 because it allows two-way synchronization. However, if you only use one device, POP3 may be a better choice.
You should note that Outlook disables POP3 by default. To enable it, click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Outlook interface and search for “POP”. Then click the results for POP and IMAP (or you can click this link to go there directly).
In the POP Options section, under Allow devices and apps to use the POP option, select Yes. You can then choose whether Apps and Devices delete emails from Outlook or keep them forever.
As we mentioned earlier, IMAP is usually the best choice if you want to access your email from multiple devices. Outlook enables IMAP access by default, so all you have to do is use these settings:

Let’s say you want to improve the reliability of emails your WordPress site sends. In this case, you can configure your WordPress site to take advantage of generous sending limits (from 300 emails to 100 recipients per day) to send emails through the Outlook SMTP server.
The setup process mainly involves pasting the Outlook SMTP server settings into the WordPress SMTP plugin (see below). However, if you run into problems, there are many free SMTP servers to choose from, including the free Gmail SMTP server
To configure WordPress to use the SMTP service, you need to install the WordPress SMTP plugin. There are several popular options, but we recommend the Post SMTP plugin because it’s 100% free and includes features to debug potential problems with your site’s emails.
To get started, install and activate the free plugin from WordPress.org. Then go to the New Post SMTP section of your WordPress dashboard and click on the View All Settings option:

Then go to the Messages tab and enter your “From” email address and your name. The email address should be your Outlook account, but the name you want your recipients to see can be:
On the Accounts tab, select SMTP from the Type drop-down menu and make sure that the Mailer Type drop-down menu shows PostSMTP.

Change Or Update Email Account Settings In Outlook For Windows
If you have a problem, you can debug by going to Post SMTP > Email Log and looking at the error message specific to the failed email. The plugin also gives you solution suggestions. For example, if you have entered an incorrect password, it will ask you to double-check the details:

For WordPress users, the reliability of your site’s emails will improve because you can take advantage of Outlook’s optimized SMTP servers. Also, a daily sending limit of 300 emails is sufficient for most WordPress sites.
For e-mail clients, an SMTP server allows you to send e-mail through the client interface. If you combine it with POP3 or IMAP, you can also receive your Outlook emails in your e-mail program or client of choice.
