When I selected the TB icon a window appeared saying I need to set up my existing email account. I enter my name, address and password. The next window that pops up shows TB found mobile.charter.net but my email was configured with email.twc.com. The port numbers are the same, but the server names are different. When I complete this activity, the end result is that my information is rejected. I tried to configure it manually but it was also rejected. I am using a HP desktop with the latest OS Win 10. I don’t know what to do.

How To Configure The Email Log

Maybe I didn’t make it clear which existing email account I was trying to restore. I have Thunderbird on my desktop hard drive. When I select the TB icon to open my TB email, a window pops up asking me to configure my existing TB email. That window is identified as the configuration page in the files I have attached. The second image shows the Spectrum server settings selected and the third shows them rejected. I can’t put my existing TB account on the Spectrum server.

It doesn’t matter what TB suggests for settings, as it’s often wrong or out of date. Just click on manual setup. and enter the settings from the link in my first reply. An “existing account” is one created with the email provider and is independent of TB or another email client.

Ok, I have created my email account and it is receiving emails, but when I try to send one, it is rejected and I am asked to enter my password. I do this but it doesn’t send my mail.

What are the output settings? Your picture only shows what is to come. The outgoing server is also mail.twc.com, but you may need to try different settings, e.g. SSL/TLS on port 465 or 587 or security = none on port 587.

Thank you for being patient with me. I am old and make mistakes easily. I do what you tell me. I am receiving email now but can still send. I configured the output manually and tried different ports as you suggested and tried different ports but the result is the same. It was suggested to see if the firewall or MS security was blocking, but my email has worked with them before and it also works on the other computer. My focus now is figuring out how to send email.

Get The Complete Guide To Fix Spectrum Email Server Not Working Issue

Configuring Spectrum/TWC for smtp can be a bit confusing. If you set the port for mail.twc.com to 587, TB will automatically select STARTTLS security, which is correct for most providers, but for Spectrum it should be SSL/TLS. This can be set by first selecting SSL/TLS and then typing 587.

I tried almost every configuration and they didn’t work, so I figured my wife’s email account was working, so I want to set up my distribution just like hers. The picture I provided is how I have it set up now and it works fine. Please note that STARTLS is required to get it sent. You said that wouldn’t be the case, so I’m wondering if it’s false information provided by Spectrum? Of course, thanks for the help.

Mail Problems: Mail Can’t Verify The Identity Of The Server

As you have seen from the TWC website, the information is not very clear about configuring desktop clients, which is probably not a high priority for them, since most clients use webmail.

I was able to use my TB email for a short while using the same settings my wife’s account uses, but then it disappeared and started asking for my password again. I enter the same password that allows me to log into Spec Webmail, but it is not accepted. I am completely frustrated as to why the server settings I have been using for so many years now are not working.

Setting Up An Existing Tb Account

If the account worked for a while, and then stopped working without a change in TB, there is probably a problem with the mail server or there is an external application on your computer that is interfering, such as an antivirus or VPN, if you have one.

Mr. Howes, I thought of something I hadn’t done yet that might be useful for setting up my account on the HP 510. I went to Lenovo and did a manual setup for my TB email. I entered the notes as you instructed ie specifically in the SMTP output I entered mail.twc.com with Port 587 and SSL/TLS but when I finished logging in Thunderbird changed my output to Mobil Charter as shown in the image below. I looked at my wife’s outgoing settings on the same Lenovo and SMTP is mail.twc.com. I don’t understand how or why Thunderbird configured the two accounts on the same computer with different account settings. Isn’t this one of the craziest cases you’ve ever worked on?

Did you allow TB to access the settings or did you enter them manually? The automatic configuration wizard often finds incorrect settings. Just enter the correct settings and click Done, not Retest.
