Emails getting stuck in the outbox is a fairly common problem in Outlook: you wrote an email, clicked to send it, but it stays in the outbox and Outlook won’t send the email no matter what , what are you doing. This article describes possible causes and solutions and applies to all versions of Outlook, including Outlook 2019.
Cannot Send Email From Outlook
There can be many reasons why Outlook is not sending emails. To narrow down the reason why an email is blocked in the Outbox, first check if there is an error message when performing the send/receive operation.
How To Set The Correct Outlook Smtp Settings To Send Emails
There is most likely a communication problem between Outlook and the outgoing mail server, so the email is stuck in the outbox because Outlook cannot connect to the mail server to send it.
– check with your Internet Service Provider that it is not blocking the port number you are using for your outgoing mail server (some providers block port 25 or other ports that your outgoing mail/SMTP server may use);
– Contact your email provider and make sure your email server settings are up to date. Sometimes email server providers change port numbers or authentication methods, so even if your Outlook account was used to send emails without any problems, it may no longer work because your outgoing mail server settings have changed;
– contact your email provider and make sure you have not exceeded the hourly/daily email sending limit (or other sending limits imposed by your email provider);
Why Outlook Is Not Sending Emails And What You Can Do
– if you have a slow internet connection, make sure that outgoing emails do not contain very large attachments (10 – 20 Mb or more). The connection to the server may time out before Outlook sends a large email;
– if the above solutions don’t work, use Google and search for the exact error code you got when trying to send an email from Outlook: this will probably lead you to the exact solution. You should also check out this list of the most common send and receive error messages and their solutions.
If Outlook is not sending only some outgoing emails, make sure you are not in the habit of viewing/opening/clicking outgoing emails: Your outgoing emails should be unread (indicated in bold and italic), otherwise Outlook won’t send email and gets stuck in outbox. Check outgoing emails:
– if the email is not in bold or italic, the email has been read and edited. As below screenshot, Outlook will only send the first email (with the title “Unread Email”) while the rest of the emails will remain in the outbox:
Use Python To Send Outlook Emails
To reactivate an outgoing email, just double-click it to edit it, then click Send again.
Before you click Send, make sure you browse to another Outlook folder to avoid having to mark it as read again when you close the email window.
If Outlook is not sending any outgoing emails and they are not being marked as read (as above), try one of the following solutions:
– Make sure Outlook is not set to offline. You can check if Outlook is offline using the Send/Receive button (toolbar):

— make sure you don’t have an overzealous antivirus scanning your emails and blocking them from being sent. Do a simple test and turn off your virus protection, restart Outlook and try to resend your emails. If they are sent, set up your antivirus to prevent it from scanning your email for sending.
– If outgoing emails contain file attachments and you’re using Outlook 2013 with iCloud or another cloud storage service, make sure the attachments are fully uploaded to your cloud account before sending;
– Outlook data files may be corrupted: scan the data file with Outlook ScanPST.
If you are dealing with email stuck in the Outbox folder and unable to repair Outlook using any of the above solutions, feel free to post your comments below and we will be happy to try to help you.

Copyright 2004 – 2022 by DS Development SRL | Security and privacy policy | Terms & Conditions Recently, a customer complained that an Office 365 account was sending spam to a large number of customers. Later, the suspected spam account could no longer send or receive emails. However, at first glance in the mailbox, sent messages were in the Sent folder, and messages sent to the affected account were not getting bouncing errors, but messages sent to the affected account were not in the inbox. After changing the account password and enabling 2FA on the account, we still couldn’t send or receive mail. Below are the steps used to resolve this specific issue. In short, a malicious inbox rule was created and outgoing messages were blocked by Microsoft.
4. In the Mail app settings, go to Mail > Automatic Processing > Inbox & Purge Rules.
Here we can see that a malicious rule has been created to mark all incoming emails as read and move the messages to the “RSS Subscriptions” folder:
6. When we look in our “RSS Subscriptions” folder, we find several messages from Microsoft indicating that the account has been blocked from sending mail because the account has been marked as sending spam:

7. To solve this problem, we will have to go to the Action Center. Log in to Admin Console > Admin Centers > Exchange > Protection > Action Center
8. In the Action Center we will find a reported problem related to our hacked user account. Take action to resolve the issue, and after some time due to permission propagation, it may take up to 2 hours before the account can send mail again.
9. If you’re still having problems with a spamming user account, it might be a good idea to contact Microsoft Support. Changing the password should prevent malicious access. Most likely the account was fake or the user’s computer was taken over by a virus/malware or spyware. It is recommended that the account has two-factor authentication or more enabled to prevent your account from being hacked again. Microsoft Outlook Tips And Tricks For Better Email Management
Before you start setting up your Gmail account in Outlook, make sure your mailbox is set up correctly. You need to make sure you have IMAP enabled in your Gmail account settings.
Log in to your Gmail account and click on the small gear in the upper right corner of the window. Select Show all settings. Then go to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. You need to make sure the IMAP status is set to enabled. As for POP, just ignore this ancient protocol. This one is very outdated and no one should use it.
IMAP is a special communication protocol between the client and the mail server. It allows the server to synchronize the mailbox between all devices and update everything. For example, if you open an email in Outlook, IMAP ensures that the email is also marked as read in the Gmail interface. This is how modern email works, and that’s why everyone has abandoned POP, which doesn’t support these useful features.
By default, Gmail enables IMAP for each account, so this step is not necessary. We just need to make sure it’s enabled otherwise you may have trouble connecting your Gmail account to Outlook.
